Working on a large outdoor sculpture recently, Ann Bingham-Freeman felt like she was “traveling” the globe many times over. It was for the “Cool Globe” project focused on environmental awareness.
Collaborating with two renowned Chicago artists, Andrea Harris and Sandra Bacon, their love of the environment and passion for art combined in a 5-foot “Cool Globe.” Their collaborative project is one of 50 painted fiberglass sculptures that illustrate a range of important approaches and solutions to global warming.
The “Cool Globes” exhibit will premiere next Wednesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Exposition Park (Rose Garden) in Los Angeles on Earth Day.
This exhibit started in Chicago in the summer of 2007, and has since traveled to Washington D.C. Botanical Gardens, San Francisco, and San Diego. After closing in Los Angeles on July 23, the sculpture exhibit will travel to Houston and London.
Throughout her long art career, Bingham-Freeman has been prolific in a variety of media, her sculpture is currently showing at Cal Poly Pomona, and her new line of bronze sculptures of animals recently premiered at the Redlands Art Association Mini Show.
Bingham-Freeman is particularly fond of her bronze animals. She states, “I am surrounded by animals, and have a close connection to the earth. Our property is home to a wide variety of animal life like dogs, chickens, and llamas. Naturally, I draw and paint the world around me. My work is earthy, experimental, always concerned with good draftsmanship and proper use of materials.”
Besides the bronze animals, Yucaipa-based artist Bingham-Freeman is a prominent printmaker and also welds metal sculptures that reference myths and classic iconic symbolism.
Born in Riverside, Bingham-Freeman has been educated at Riverside Community College and the University of Redlands in addition to teaching hundreds of adults and children throughout the region.
